All my life I’ve heard the same thing, ‘there’s nothing more important than family.” Then I would look at my family, who adopted me and think, there has to be more than that. It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t heartfelt, and I just felt like a placeholder.
Then as fate would have it, I was reunited with those who never forgot me, who shared my trauma, and cried as I did over our separation. Their joy, their love, and that feeling of our family being whole as we once knew it was coming to fruition. I can now saw without equivocation, There’s nothing more important than family.
“Now some guys they just give up living,
And start dying little by little, piece by piece.
Some guys come home from work and wash up,
and go racing in the street.”
